چکیده

In a Fisher market, a market maker sells m items to n potential buyers. The buyers submit their utility functions and money endowments to the market maker, who, upon receiving submitted information, derives market equilibrium prices and allocations of its items. While agents may benefit by misreporting their private information, we show that the percentage of improvement by a unilateral strategic play, called incentive ratio, is rather limited—it is less than 2 for linear markets and at most e ≈ 1.445 for Cobb-Douglas markets. We further prove that both ratios are tight.

The Incentive Ratio in Exchange Economies

The incentive ratio measures the utility gains from strategic behaviour. Without any restrictions on the setup, ratios for linear, Leontief and Cobb–Douglas exchange markets are unbounded, showing that manipulating the equilibrium is a worthwhile endeavour, even if it is computationally challenging. Such unbounded improvements can be achieved even if agents only misreport their utility function...

How Profitable Are Strategic Behaviors in a Market?

It is common wisdom that individuals behave strategically in economic environments. We consider Fisher markets with Leontief utilities and study strategic behaviors of individual buyers in market equilibria. While simple examples illustrate that buyers do get larger utilities when behaving strategically, we show that the benefits can be quite limited: We introduce the concept of incentive ratio...

Imperfect Markets and Commodity Prices Under Demand Pull

This paper presents a theoretical view of imperfect market. It concludes that an increase in the price of products does not give any incentive to increasing production which shows the mechanism for upward trends in prices.

Prediction Markets: How Do Incentive Schemes Affect Prediction Accuracy?

The results of recent studies on prediction markets are encouraging. Prior experience demonstrates that markets with different incentive schemes predicted uncertain future events at a remarkable accuracy. In this paper, we study the impact of different monetary incentives on the prediction accuracy in a field experiment. In order to do so, we compare three groups of users, corresponding to thre...

Sildenafil and a compound stimulating endothelial NO synthase modify sexual incentive motivation and copulatory behavior in male Wistar and Fisher 344 rats.

INTRODUCTION Earlier studies have shown that sildenafil may modify some aspects of male rat sexual behavior and sexual incentive motivation. Stimulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) has also been reported to affect sexual motivation in old rats. AIM To determine the effects of sildenafil and a compound stimulating eNOS on copulatory behavior and sexual incentive motivation in y...
